The Sherman is one of Cardiff's newer theatres and was founded in 1973. It began life as part of the University of Cardiff, until it was bought by the Welsh Office in 1989.

Cardiffs Sherman Theatre is an excellent venue for medium scale productions. The Theatre has two main venues - Venue 1, the main house, seats around 400 and is a traditional proscemium arch venue. Venue 2 is a flexible studio space with capacity for 160. Both venues have largely ADB lighting rigs, and Martin Audio sound systems. Soundweb is used to control the sound systems, whilst listing control is a 500 series in Venue 1 and an Arri Mirage in Venue 2. Venue 1 also has around 45 lines of single purchase counterweight.
